LS2100 AVR – One of the most reliable Static starter for GT

The LS2100 is a cutting-edge static starter designed for large generators, capable of starting gas turbines (GTs) as motors using variable frequency and current control. Specifically tailored for 7FA/9FA and 9H gas turbines, the LS2100 has proven to be a reliable and robust solution over the years. The GE Control toolbox serves as a valuable commissioning and maintenance software tool for the LS2100.

LS2100 Maintenance and troubleshooting-

LS2100 maintenance includes routine tasks such as cleaning panels, components, control boards, SCRs, AC/DC reactors, and ensuring proper water resistivity. Disconnector maintenance is also essential. Many customers have trained and qualified technicians capable of performing these tasks.

As a state-of-the-art device, the LS2100 features a microprocessor-based controller and complex PCBs with limited spare parts available. Arjavin’s team of former GE LS2100 experts offers specialized troubleshooting support. We can also conduct comprehensive testing, including gate tests, crowbar tests, phase sequence tests, and simulations.

One of the most challenging alarms to troubleshoot in the LS2100 is Task Overlap (37), as it can originate from multiple sources. Arjavin possesses the expertise to efficiently diagnose and resolve these alarms. Our knowledge of the LS2100’s power circuit and water cooling circuit is a valuable asset in helping customers mitigate risks.

Obsolescence

LS2100 panel production was discontinued in 2012, replaced by the advanced AVR EX2100e. From 2012 to 2021, the LS2100 was in the post-production phase before entering the legacy phase. This marked the end of LS2100 control board production in 2021. The LS2100e is a compatible upgrade featuring a digital front-end upgrade and utilizing the same power circuit.

Upgrade Options

To maintain the same constants related to startup and interfaces with GE Mark VI or VIe, the LS2100 can only be upgraded with the GE LS2100e digital front-end.

Upgrading from LS2100 to LS2100e is a straightforward solution if budget constraints are not a concern. However, customers facing financial challenges may find it difficult to justify this upgrade. Our former GE engineers can provide valuable support for LS2100 systems. Arjavin also offers a reliability enhancement package and a technical support package for LS2100, both of which can improve system reliability without any financial commitment.

Product may be obsolete but we own the expertise

Arjavin offers a reliability enhancement package for customers considering a DFE upgrade. This package ensures that single points of failure and reliability issues associated with the LS2100 are not carried over to the LS2100e DFE upgrade. While the owner is aware of the risks beyond the scope of controls, they can plan for risk mitigation in areas such as water cooling circuits and SCRs.
